The threshold of the Lahaul plateau is nourished by Chandra & Bhaga rivers.

Dry and very cold, it is surrounded by high mountain on all sides, the great Himalayan in the north ,the Pir Panjal to the south and the Spiti – Chandra watershed to the east. From Lahaul, the Himalayas can be seen in all their mighty splendour. The barren landscape and sparse vegetation lends a magnificent charm to this otherwise bleak country. With their slant Mongol eyes, prominent cheek bones and cheerful smiles, the people give visitors an enthusiastic welcome Rahul was the son of Buddha and the name Lahaul is derived from lahaul.

By Air

Nearest Airport is Bhunter near Kullu from Manali side and Jubbar Hatti Airport near Shimla from Shimla side..

By Train

Being a hilly areas and difficult terrain railway is not possible. However, narrow gauge line is the only option to reach nearest railway point that is Shimla.

By Road

Almost each and every part of the state is linked by roads. The Himachal Road Transport Corporation is running its buses covering the whole state.
